Technically it's not possible to hide the public (WAN) IP on a home network. Completely hiding the IP address of a network enabled device would make it virtually inaccessible, much like it is impossible to deliver an unaddressed letter to its destination. That is, it would be impossible to use that device to connect the internet. On the other hand, it is possible, and sometimes desirable to hide our public (WAN) IP address from curious eyes (hackers) and from many internet servers (that is, from web sites such as forums, game sites, etc.).
When we are connecting to the Internet, our home computer (or network router) is assigned a public IP address. If it were possible to somehow hide your public IP address, its Internet activity would become much more difficult to trace.
